Year in Review 2021

Looking back on this past year, 2021 served as a valuable time for us to learn, adapt and most importantly, grow. Despite any challenges that came our way, we stayed optimistic and found innovative ways to continue creating and thriving safely within our community and beyond. So what made this year stand out? A powerful sense of gratitude. With each story told and captured, we were reminded of the many opportunities and relationships we are grateful to encounter every day.

2021 was a year of trying new things and building meaningful connections. We documented and held dialogue with some incredible leaders, such as David Suzuki and the President of UBC, Santa Ono. We then encouraged a new generation of leaders with Beedie Luminaries, where we also awarded a scholarship of our own, named after Orene Askew aka DJ O Show. We captured the amazing movement and flow over at Arts Umbrella, and explored a new world of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy for the future of mental health alongside Numinus, among many other exciting projects.

We are also proud to say that our short documentary The O Show, a story about the incredibly inspiring Afro-Indigenous and Two-Spirit leader, Orene Askew, was recognized and awarded by film festivals both locally and internationally. For a closer glimpse into our work this past year, we hope you enjoy this year’s recap video below!

As we wrap up the year, we would like to give thanks to everyone who was a part of Human Biography’s 2021 journey. It is always a pleasure to learn from and connect with one another. With gratitude, Human Biography.
