Meryl Streep
Often described as the "best actress of her generation", Meryl Streep is particularly known for her acting versatility and accents. Nominated for a record 21 Academy Awards, she has won three. Among other accolades, she has received a record 32 Golden Globe nominations, and has won eight.
Streep has been the recipient of many honorary awards. She was awarded the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2004, Gala Tribute from the Film Society of Lincoln Center in 2008, and Kennedy Center Honor in 2011 for her contribution to American culture, through performing arts. President Barack Obama awarded her the 2010 National Medal of Arts, and in 2014, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In 2003, the government of France made her a Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters. She was awarded the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2017.
Our team interviewed Streep to help promote the Think Equal initiative. As an ambassador of the non-profit organization, she wanted to appear on camera to voice her support for the program, which at the time was just lifting off.
Think Equal constructs and delivers an international curriculum, and acts as a global resource for educating the hearts of the world’s children, and not merely their heads. The detailed, extended curriculum is a holistic approach to education, which provides concrete strategies, exercises and tools to secure an education in empathy, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, conflict resolution, respect, equality and diversity. Its objective is to break the cycle of discrimination and violence, and create a new generation of global citizens who can rise to the many challenges facing the 21st century.
